BLESMA helped them realise there is life after amputation

News - Help for Heroes gives money to BLESMA

We are delighted to acknowledge the generous assistance of Help for Heroes in our endeavours to rehabilitate those disabled in the service of our country.  Help for Heroes has offered BLESMA £100,000 towards our rehabilitation work.  We can guarantee that we will use the money, given by many generous donors to Help for Heroes, very effectively.

BLESMA rehab is focused primarily on amputees helping amputees, which is what we refer to as the 'fellowship of shared experience'.

By way of example, in November 2008, a BLESMA all-amputee crew sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to Barbados.  A month later 15 members - 10 of whom were very recent casualties - skied together in the Rocky Mountains.

We will repeat this in 2009 and we will now be able to offer even more to our deserving people.

Watch this space though! BLESMA will be returning to compete in the most prestigious and infamous offshore sailing race of all – the legendary Fastnet.  Help for Heroes will be behind us as we take on wind and weather – and all those able bodied types who are racing against us!

Whatever the result, we’ll be winners all the way.
