BLESMA helped them realise there is life after amputation

Culina Brings BLESMA to the Front Line

Culina Logistics Ltd is supporting BLESMA by featuring the charity's logo emblazoned across one of its 45ft articulated vehicles.

Culina Branded TruckOperating from the company’s Milton Keynes site, the vehicle will cover around 100,000 miles a year as it travels the length and breadth of the country – raising awareness for the cause, whilst distributing food and drink products to major supermarket retailers.

The trailer designed by Culina was unveiled to ex-servicemen and veterans who have been helped by the charity including Ted Johnson, an amputee who acts as BLESMA’s Milton Keynes representative. Also present was ex British Army member, Mark Lancaster, now local MP for North East Milton Keynes as well as a TA (Territorial Army) bomb disposal officer and keen supporter of BLESMA. He commented: “BLESMA carries out a valuable service to injured personnel and credit to Culina Logistics for giving the charity some deserved recognition in helping to raise its profile.”

Culina became involved with the charity through the passion of one of its employee’s, David Hand, a driver trainer based at the Milton Keynes site. Before joining Culina in 2003, David served 20 years in the military as a driver for the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC), providing logistics support to military operations worldwide.

Serving in Northern Ireland, he first became aware of BLESMA as many of his colleagues and friends who had lost limbs received vital support. But since leaving the army he realised the hard work of the charity, which relies solely on public support, goes relatively unnoticed and therefore took it upon himself to bring it to the forefront of public attention.

Culina’s chief executive officer, Thomas van Mourik, comments: “We feel very privileged to be in a position to help such a worthy cause in BLESMA. We know first hand from our employees who have served their country the sacrifices many have made and the tremendous work of BLESMA.”
