Keith Meakin was made MBE in Her Majesty's Birthday Honours for services to BLESMA. We are all absolutely delighted. Keith is employed as the Area Welfare Officer for the Midlands.

The Chara Challenge Run for BLESMA

3 Commando Brigade returned from Afghanistan in April after a six month tour of duty. 37 comrades were killed in action, 169 were wounded in action and 379 suffered non-battle related injuries. The challenge has raised £15,000 for BLESMA to date.

Help for Heroes gives money to BLESMA

We are delighted to acknowledge the generous assistance of Help for Heroes to rehabilitate those disabled in the service of our country. Help for Heroes has offered BLESMA £100,000 towards our work. We will use the money, given to Help for Heroes, very effectively.

Ex Serviceman adds weight to the London Marathon

In 2004, author Chris Hunter served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal operator in Iraq. He is now attempting to run the London marathon wearing a 75lb protective Explosive Ordnance Disposal suit for the British Limbless Ex Service Men’s Association (BLESMA).

SSAFA Home Opens

BLESMA welcomes the opening of the new family centre at Selly Oak and congratulates our good friends SSAFA for driving through this important initiative - BLESMA is sadly a regular visitor at Selly Oak Hospital and we know only too well how important it is that family members can benefit from this type of support.

Colin Rouse was made MBE in Her Majesty's New Year Honours List for Services to BLESMA. This much deserved recognition for his huge contribution to our growing rehabilitation activity has been widely welcomed across the Association.

For the third year BLESMA are proud to have been invited by the Disabled Sports USA/Wounded Warrior project to take part in their Winter Sports Extravaganza at Breckenridge, Colorado.

Project 65

Project 65 aims to raise a total of £500,000 to mark the 65th anniversary of D-Day which falls next year. The greater part of the money raised will be divided equally between 6 Service charities, one being BLESMA.

All Disabled Crew to Sail Atlantic

Following the success of 2005 in completing the Atlantic Race Challenge that year, the British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association are once again crewing an all mputee yacht from Sao Vincente, Cape Verde Islands to Bridgetown, Barbados.
