2012 miles to raise £2012 for Forces Charity

During 2012, Royal Engineer Officer Gavin Brown from Perthshire will run 2012 miles in an effort to raise over £2012 for the military charity BLESMA (The British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association). To achieve this feat which he is calling ‘2012 Cubed’, Gavin will run every day throughout the year, from 1st January to 31st December. The total distance equates to an average of 5.5 miles a day, 38.5 miles (1.5 marathons) a week, or 77 marathons a year.

Gavin has served in the Armed Forces for 16 years and has commanded operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo. He said: “I am in awe of the young soldiers who continue to operate in Afghanistan knowing that the threat from IEDs is very high and that there is a chance of losing life or limb. I look to repay some of their selfless commitment by supporting BLESMA.” Gavin says he is making good progress with his running routine so far. “I am a little stiff and aching slightly, but I’m very content that I will achieve my goal.”

He will be auctioning off the opportunity to accompany him during his journey. Donors will be able to join Gavin for his landmark 500th, 1,000th, 1500th, 2000th and 2012th miles, helping to raise money for a great cause.
