The On Course Foundation Launch

BLESMA supports this initiative and has funded six members on their recent trip to the inaugural Orlando Golf Event.

Double Amputee Golfer

Due to the vast improvement in technology and rehabilitation severely injured servicemen, ex-servicemen and women are no longer bound to their wheelchairs.

The On Course Foundation has been created to offer injured men and women (initially from the UK and subsequently from the US), who are retired or still serving in the military, the opportunity to play golf and/or work within the industry not just today but for many years to come.

With this progression, On Course will provide a unique opportunity for a number of our injured service and ex-service personnel to be part of our work in the golf environment.

Launching on Friday, 2nd July 2010 at Windsor Castle, wounded servicemen and women are invited to play a round of golf on the Royal Household Golf Course by invitation from the On Course Foundation.

“I am delighted that we have found a way for the golfing industry as a whole to support our Armed Forces in a very positive way.”
HRH The Duke of York, On Course Patron

Foundation Aims

The aims of the On Course Golfing Rehabilitation Programme are:

  • To provide introductory and golf tuition through a structured system relating to differing levels of ability and progress
  • To provide lessons on etiquette, the rules of golf and all other areas of the game
  • To supply equipment, access to practice facilities and opportunities to play at local courses
  • To provide specific training courses within the golfing world in order to facilitate employment in the industry

“If someone had said that I would have been playing golf in Orlando 13 months after my injury, I would have told them that they were more injured in their head than I am in my legs!” – Gregg Stevenson BLESMA Member and Double Leg Amputee – Orlando, 2010

"To see that our beloved game can be used as an integral tool in the rehabilitation of injured British soldiers fills me with great pride." Arnold Palmer, On Course Patron
