Hartford Ski Spectacular 2010

In December 2010, Brendan West headed up a party of BLESMA Members to Breckenridge, Colorado for some snow sports, this is what Brendan had to say:

December in Breckenridge and just breathing at 10-12,000 ft is difficult enough, but for two triple, six double and six single amputees and a BLESMA Welfare Officer, snow sports - no problem.  The BLESMA group this year covered almost all adaptive ski disciplines - ski, snowboard, mono ski, bi ski, 3-track and skibob.

After only one day everyone was up and skiing well, to the amazement of our US instructors.  The instructors spent most of their time trying to slow down our 'NO FEAR' Special Forces guys!!

As usual, the BLESMA work ethic was demonstrated by first and last on the slopes.

Not being a group to ignore the social side, it was Pirate fancy dress for the BLESMA group and Pink for the 5 Rifles who were at Breckenridge this year.

Speech night was headlined by Ben Parkinson and Jonno Lee who got a tearful standing ovation.

Amazing progress from Peter Norton GC, Kingsley Ward, Garth Banks, Alex Harrison and Joe Townsend.

Special thanks to Graeme Culliford and Nick Bowman of the Sunday Mirror for providing such great coverage of the event.
