Extends Criteria after Meeting with BLESMA

ABACUS Limited, a major provider of insurance for the Military, have recently decided to extend their personal accident policy criteria as a result of concerns presented by BLESMA in recent discussions with their representative.

They will now include “Loss of Genitals” at various levels of cover, and this includes females.

They will also include payment for the full loss of a limb and loss of a hand or foot.

ABACUS has issued a new prospectus and policy that contains the new detail.

We are indebted to ABACUS for listening and for taking account of some of the more complex injuries that our service personnel are suffering.

PAX Military Insurance

We have also been in consultation with PAX over the same issues and are assured the PAX policy has considered the subject of permanent disabilities comprehensively, including specific amounts of benefit paid for loss of limb(s). In addition, loss of genitals is covered under the “unspecified” section in the Benefit Table.

They plan to itemise a few more body parts, in addition to those already set out, where they have seen quite a few claims, such as the back and the genitals.

PAX intend to make the wording much clearer to understand in their Permanent Disability section of the Policy Document, so there can be no grey areas. Timing for this inclusion is yet to be determined – but likely to be fairly soon.

We also commend PAX for clarifying the questions presented and for their willingness to enter into dialogue.
