SRUK 2012 - Tick Achieved
Soldier Ride UK 2012 is now officially in the bag!
Congratulations to all our riders, donors, support crew and helpers - you have managed to pull off an awesome challenge and come through it with flying colours.
We at BLESMA are incredibly proud of our Members who braved the 250 mile cycle ride from Sandringham to London in six days. Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex cheered on our wounded cyclists and did their counties proud.
BLESMA Members were joined by 15 cyclists from the US - the Wounded Warrior Project returned with their Members and together, a 30 strong team was formed. The banter was great and the friendships forged, strong. Reaching out and connecting with our colleagues from across the Atlantic meant riders could draw strength from each other's injuries and use this knowledge to motivate and overcome their own struggles. Being in a group of others 'just like you' creates an environment where the goal is to achieve; these men and women are not to be pitied for their disabilities but celebrated for their talents, strength and ability to reach beyond boundaries.
The Paralympics have opened the public's eyes to the achievements of our athletes; we hope that challenges such as this one will open their eyes to the achievements of every wounded veteran.
If you have missed out on seeing our cyclists this year, make sure to put the dates in your diary for 2013. It is truly inspirational to see a group of injured men and women cycling together and helping each other to take on a challenge that would defeat many 'able-bodied' cyclists.
