Help Families Heal After a Life-Changing Injury
For 17 years, Lisa served as an Army Medic, touring Iraq and the Falklands. But her most harrowing battle wasn't in a combat zone; it was at home, where she couldn’t be the mum she wanted to be.
After a training injury led to Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), her leg became a source of such agonising, "invisible" pain that she couldn't bear her children’s touch. For two years, there were no cuddles, no trips to the park, and no playing in the swimming pool.
Desperate to relieve the pain and be the “fun mum” again, she chose the unthinkable: amputation.
After her surgery, Lisa was able to finally hug her children again. “It was like holding them for the first time when they were born. It was just magical. I was a mum. I was their mum from then on. That hug was life-changing.”
Lisa has reclaimed her life as a mum. She’s back to the everyday magic of family life — from the simple chore of unloading the dishwasher to the sheer joy of joining in with her children's games and hobbies.
Blesma has been there to support Lisa throughout her recovery journey, providing advice on prosthetics, access to social activities, and family gatherings.
